Clandestine Meetings! *Action Sequence* - 30th April 1006

As arranged with Morgana a few days ago, Arthur comes to her chambers at just before mid-afternoon.

He's full of anticipation, it's been three whole days since he's been in close quarters with Guinevere.

He really can't thank Morgana enough for this.

Gwen's in Morgana's chambers, folding and mending clothes, cleaning, and working on completing her afternoon chores when Arthur walks in. It takes her a minute to realize he's there, but when she looks up from her current task and sees him, she's surprised. "Arthur!" Then she smiles. "Are you here for Morgana? She's out, at the moment. I think she went to the stables."

Arthur had been expecting Morgana, otherwise he never would have marched right on in.

But faint-heart never won fair lady.

"No, I'm here to see you, beautiful Guinevere."

"You're here to see me?" Now that was definitely something Gwen wasn't expecting. Typically, if Arthur was in Morgana's chambers, it was to see Morgana. Or, when they were younger, play pranks on Morgana. But never to see Gwen. But him coming to see her makes her smile even wider. "Well, it seems you've found me."

"Of course I am! Didn't Morgana tell you?" Arthur's rather confused, at least until Guinevere smiles at him. Then he sort of forgets everything and closing the door behind him hurries over to take her in his arms.

Gwen laughs. It's a minute before relaxes in his arms, resting her head on his chest, because she's scared someone might walk in, but when she feels safe, she's more than happy to let it be. It's been a while since she'd last been in his arms, anyway. "No, she didn't. This was planned? Maybe she meant it to be a surprise."

"Well, surprise!" Arthur chuckles and quite certain that it's safe he leans in for a kiss. Because ther's been a complete lack of kissing as of late.

Well, that was quick. Not that Gwen's complaining. She's missed kissing him.

But! There was a serious reason for him coming to see her... although he hates to bring the mood down.

"How has the last few days been? Aside from utterly bereft without me?"

Gwen's laughing again. "Aside from utterly bereft?" She wasn't even going to argue that point with him. "I've been fine. How about you?"

"Well...I distracted myself with the guards yesterday." Rolls eyes. "I think a few of them are capable of fifty push-ups in breastplates now."

And hey, that's an improvement if nothing else.

"Well, that's good. Especially if they couldn't do it before." Gwen's optimistic, as usual, about the guards and their abilities, even if it isn't something she knows too much about. "What were you distracting yourself from?"

"From not being able to be with you, of course." Arthur strokes her cheek.

But ah Guinevere...always getting to the heart of the matter, that wasn't the only problem.

"There's something else as well..." He looks quite embarrassed, he can't believe he's going to ask this.

Gwen doesn't miss the embarrassed look on Arthur's face. "What is it?"

"I...it's just...well, it's not really..." Arthur clears his throat. Really it seems like a totally inappropriate thing to ask. "I don't know what to do about the King."

Well, blurting it out is a good way to do things.

Arthur has caught Gwen by surprise again, and it's a moment before she can think of what to say in response to that. "What do you mean? And what do you want from me?"

"It's just...I swore I'd never forgive him. I mean to stand by that." Arthur sets his jaw and hugs her to him. "What he did to you..."

But...and there's always a but.

"And it just seems..." he trails off not even able to articulate his feelings.

He's asking a lot of Guinevere...

Gwen shakes her head. "I don't know what to tell you, Arthur. I wish I did, but this is something you have to come to on your own."

Arthur seems to realise he's asked a lot of her.

"I...I just don't want to do the wrong thing, that's all..." He sighs and rubs the back of his neck with one hand.

"Perhaps you should consider how you would feel about the situation if I weren't involved." This next part is difficult for Gwen to say, but she manages to get it out, anyway. "He really just had what he thought were your best interests at heart." She'd add more to that, but really can't bring herself to.

Seriously, Guinevere, you're a saint! Arthur's going to hug you tight.

"I know you have my best interests in heart always."

And that sort of love should be celebrated with a kiss.

"Of course I do." Gwen smiles. And then kisses back, because she's definitely not one to turn down a celebratory kiss.

There's the sudden arrival of a particular lady. These are her chambers, so she's not about to knock, no matter what.

As terrible as it sounds, she's disappointed not to have caught them in something that could've brought about a loud expression of shock. It was a hope, and a bit of a set up, but none of this shows on her face.

And she's already got a reason for appearing. "Arthur, your father is looking for you." Actually, Morgana put the bug in his ear about Arthur being given more responsibility, as a way of distracting the prince from his recent 'enchantment.'

There's a hope to make ruling appear so unappealing that Arthur will choose to elope with Gwen.

When Morgana suddenly shows up, Arthur jumps a mile away from Guinevere, almost tripping on a rug and landing on Morgana's bed.

"Morgana! Don't just burst in! I thought...you could have been anyone!"
